Create a unique piece that will become a keepsake when you use wood stain and stencils on unfinished wood. This easy DIY guestbook will be a statement piece for your special day.
Step 1: Attach furring strips together using wood glue. Let the glue dry.
Step 2: Prepare the unfinished wood by sanding in the direction of the grain. Begin with #120 grit sandpaper and progress through #150 and #180 grits until smooth.
Step 3: Wipe the wood with a lint-free cloth to ensure a clean surface.
Step 4: With another lint-free cloth, and in the direction of the grain, apply Ebony wood stain liberally to the sign. Allow the stain to sit for 2-3 minutes before wiping off, also in the direction of the grain.
Step 5: Allow the stain to dry for approximately 1 hour.
Step 6: Using stencils, paint a heart shaped design with the couple's name and wedding date with Testors Craft Acrylic Paint. Let paint dry for at least 1 hour.
Step 7: Using enamel markers, guests can write their signature on the sign as a keepsake for the bride and groom.
Tip: Apply a clear top coat, such as Varathane Triple Thick Polyurethane once all signatures are gathered for a long-lasting, durable finish.
