Rocking Horse
Even in the age of smartphones and tablets, kids still enjoy riding on a good old fashioned rocking horse. Here's how to bring your wooden rocking horse up to date with a fresh coat of paint to match your little one's favorite color.
- PREPARE: Always work in a well ventilated area and cover nearby items with a drop cloth to protect them from overspray. Wipe down the entire rocking horse with a lint free cloth, sanding rough areas if needed.
- PAINT:
Rocking Horse: Shake your can of Ultra Cover 2x Primer spray in Flat White for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the can upright 10-16” from the horse and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart. Let the primer dry for approximately 20 minutes. Next, shake your can of Ultra Cover 2x Gloss spray paint (we used Gloss Berry Pink) for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the can upright 10-16” from surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart to avoid drips. Allow the paint to dry for approximately 1 hour.
Handles: Once the rocking horse is dry, cover the entire horse with a plastic bag, exposing only the handles. Use painter’s tape to secure the bag around the handles. Shake your can of Glitter spray paint for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle, hold the can upright 12-14” from the handles and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart. Let the glitter dry for approximately 20 minutes. Then, shake your can of Glitter Clear Sealer, hold the can upright 12-14” from the handles, and spray in a similar fashion. Apply two or more light coats of the sealer a few minutes apart. - FINISH: Remove the plastic bag from the horse and let the entire rocking horse dry for approximately 24 hours.
Give your new modern horse as a unique gift or make it an instant addition to your child's bedroom. Either way, this bright rocking horse is sure to be enjoyed for years to come.
