A stained fire pit cover can add visual appeal to your fire pit while it’s not in use, while also creating a tabletop for your patio.
- To prepare to stain your fire pit cover, lightly sand the cover with #180- to #220-grit sandpaper and remove sanding dust. We recommend Gator Finishing sanding products.
- With a lint-free cloth, generously apply Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain and let it sit for 2-3 minutes. For a richer penetration, leave on for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- For additional outdoor protection, apply Varathane Spar Urethane to the surface, following the instructions on the can.
- If desired, screw handles onto the cover after the wood stain and spar urethane is dry.
- Make sure the fire is completely out and the pit has cooled before placing the tabletop cover over it.
