In only a few steps, you can give your worn out carpeting the shag and say hello to a brand new look with wood stain. Update your home from the '90s to today's farmhouse chic with Varathane. See how Erin from @Francois_et_moi did this project on her Instagram page.
- Remove all carpeting.
 - Make sure all stair treads and risers are clean and free of dirt and debris.
 - Lightly sand any areas of the stair treads and risers that aren't smooth and remove sanding dust with a tack cloth.
 - Gently stir the Varathane Wood Stain with a stir stick and apply a generous amount of stain on each stair tread and riser. Work the stain with the wood grain using a lint-free cloth and wipe away the excess.
 - Allow the wood stain to dry according to the instructions on the can.
 - Once the wood stain is dry, apply the protective polyurethane with a foam brush and let it dry according to the instructions on the can.
 - Wait 24 hours for light use and 3 days before full use of the staircase.
