Yes, you can paint your floors! Rust-Oleum HOME Floor Paint makes it simple and affordable. It’s easy to paint the entire surface but consider getting creative by NOT painting the grout lines. With some painter’s tape and patience, you can create a stunning new look. Here's how to do it.
- Make sure your floor is clean of dirt and debris. Clean the floor with Krud Kutter Original Cleaner Degreaser and clean the grout really well with a scrub brush. Wipe away dirt and let dry.
- If you choose not to paint the grout, mask it using painter's tape of the same thickness. Measure the width of your grout lines and use the same width painter's tape. Work in sections and press the tape down into the grout lines. Also, apply painter's tape along the border edges of the room and anywhere you don't want paint.
- Apply Base Coat (color shown Navy) using a brush and apply paint over the tape lines. Make sure the brush is wider than the tape so it really seals the tape down making super crisp edges on the floor. Let dry for 6 hours.
- Apply the Base Coat to the rest of the floor in 4'x4' sections, and maintain a wet edge while rolling. Do not let product puddle. One coat is recommended. After coating the entire floor, wait 6 hours before applying any necessary touch-ups. Let touched-up areas dry for 1-2 hours (dry to touch), If no touch-ups are ncessary, Top Coat may be applied 6 hours after the Base Coat application.
- Before applying the Top Coat, remove the painter's tape covering the grout lines.
- Apply Rust-Oleum Home Top Coat. in 4’x4’ sections, and maintain a wet edge while rolling. Do not let product puddle. One coat is recommended. If a second coat is desired for additional durability or uniformity, wait until the first coat is dry to touch (1-2 hours) before applying, but must apply within 24 hours.
- For full system, allow 24 hours for light foot traffic. Allow 72 hours before replacing furniture (avoid dragging). Full cure is 7 days. Do not wash before 7 days.
