- Gather about 12 vintage metal serving trays. They’re inexpensive and abundant – look in your grandparents’ basement, at yard sales, or Goodwill.
- Lay out an appealing geometric pattern with the trays on the ground or floor.
- Define a complementary pattern and color palette. We chose six Rust-Oleum® Universal® Spray Paint colors.
- Determine the overlay steps for combining colors on your pattern. Get creative.
- Use the painter’s tape to mask areas you don’t want to paint yet.
- Apply paint in layers to break the contrasting colors into zones. Tape, paper, and plastic are great materials for creating pattern templates. Let each layer dry before adding the next color.
- Let all the trays dry completely.
- Fasten the trays together with your method of choice. We used nuts and bolts.
- Hang up and enjoy!
