Paint a stool in a dip-dyed style using Chalked Ultra Matte Paint and Stops Rust Metallic spray paint from Rust-Oleum. Follow these steps to create your own two-toned painted stool.

  1. Tape off stool legs 3/4 of the way with painter’s tape, leaving the bottom ¼ of the stool legs bare.
  2. Spray un-taped areas with Stops Rust Metallic Rose Gold. Shake the can for one minute after the mixing ball releases. Hold your can of spray paint 8-12" from the surface of the stool and apply light coats of spray paint, waiting a few minutes between each coat to ensure even coverage.
  3. Remove tape.
  4. After Rose Gold Metallic paint has dried to handle, tape off Rose Gold Metallic at the painted legs’ edges and under the bottom of stool seat where the legs meet the seat.
  5. Stir Chalked Ultra Matte Paint in Linen White thoroughly to ensure any unsettled pigment is mixed in. With a high-quality synthetic paint brush, use light, even brush strokes to ensure even flow and the smoothest finish on the stool. Let first coat of paint dry for 2 hours before applying a second coat.
  6. After drying for at least 8 hours, apply Chalked Protective Topcoat over Chalked Linen White with a high-quality synthetic paint brush using light, even strokes. Let dry at least 2 hours between coats and apply 1-2 top coats for best protection.
  7. Remove remaining painter’s tape.
