Update your laminate countertop with this easy-to-apply, durable countertop paint.
- Thoroughly clean the countertop with detergent and water. Rinse with clean water and allow to dry.
- Sand the countertop to a dull finish and remove all sanding dust.
- Use painter’s tape to cover any surrounding areas you do not wish to paint.
- Open windows or use fans to ventilate the room and reduce odors.
- Open the can of Rust-Oleum Countertop Coating (we chose the color Linen) and thoroughly mix the solution with a paint stir stick. Make sure all pigment is mixed into the paint.
- Apply the countertop paint around the edges of the counter using a high-quality, synthetic bristle brush. A 2-inch angled brush works well for this space.
- Apply the countertop paint to the top of the counter using a high-quality, high-density foam roller designed to give a smooth finish. For best results, keep a light hand and high angle on the roller and do not overwork the coating. Use light, even strokes to ensure an even finish.
- More than one coat of countertop paint may be required if you’re making a significant color change. Apply a second coat within 1 hour of the first coat. If more than one hour has passed, allow the first coat of paint to dry for at least 24 hours before recoating.
- Rust-Oleum Countertop Coating dries to the touch in 1-2 hours. Allow it to dry 3 days before normal countertop use. In higher humidity areas or if the temperature is below 70°F, allow for additional drying time before placing items on the counter.
