The antiquing look is trending, and you can create it yourself easily on a blanket storage chest with Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain. This DIY project can be done in an afternoon!
Make sure your blanket storage chest is on a drop cloth before you begin. With any unfinished piece, make sure the surface is smooth by lightly sanding any spots that feel rough and wipe away any sanding residue with a lint-free cloth.
Once your surface is smooth, apply a generous amount of Varathane wood stain with a lint-free rag and work it into the wood in circular and back-and-forth motions going with the grain of your wood. Wipe away any excess stain with a clean, lint-free rag and let the stain dry for 1 hour.
For the antiquing look, use a dry brush and Antique White Wood Stain to lightly brush into the grains of the wood. Use as much stain as needed for the desired effect.
Protect your wood with a coat of Ultimate Polyurethane in a Matte finish. Apply the topcoat with a high-quality paint brush. The topcoat will be dry to the touch in 1 hour. Let the blanket chest cure for 24 hours before placing it into your room for full use.
