Spray paint makes it easy to give ordinary glass vases and jars the look of mercury glass. See how we transformed these pieces using Rust-Oleum spray paint.
- Choose a work space outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, like an open garage. Cover nearby items with drop cloths or old sheets to protect them from spray mist.
- Clean the inside and outside of the glass with glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth.
- Cover with paper and tape the outside of the jar or vase.
- Shake your can of Rust-Oleum Mirror Effect Spray Paint for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the can of mirror paint 10-12” from the glass and spray a light coat on the inside of the vase or jar.
- While the Mirror Effect spray paint is still wet, spritz a solution of 2/3 water and 1/3 vinegar over the paint. Blot the inside of the vase with a paper towel to achieve a distressed look. If necessary repeat this step while the Mirror Effect spray paint is still wet to achieve your desired look.
- Optional: For a more distressed look, add a very light coat of Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover in Flat Black and blot with a paper towel.
- Let the inside of the vase completely dry before adding flowers.
