Welcome your next houseguests with a DIY chalkboard sign that provides your Wi-Fi information or the greeting of your choice.
- Lightly sand a piece of unfinished wood with fine-grit sandpaper and wipe off residue with a tack cloth.
- With a lint-free cloth, generously apply Varathane Wood Stain to the entire wood surface and let it sit for 2-3 minutes, based on your desired richness of color.
- Wipe off excess stain with a clean, lint-free cloth.
- Let the wood stain dry for 1 hour.
- Use painter’s tape to cover about 1-2 inches around the perimeter of the wood sign, leaving the center exposed.
- Following the instructions on the can, apply light coats of Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Spray Paint to the exposed wood in a slow, back-and-forth motion. Let the chalkboard paint dry for 20 minutes between coats and for 1 hour after you’ve applied the last coat. Paint will be dry to handle in 1 hour.
