- Go on a scavenger hunt around the house for an old frame with great potential, or pick one up at a yard sale.
- Take a quick trip to your local bookstore, flea market or library and scout out an old time illustration (we chose a classic architectural print).
- Choose a well-ventilated area (preferably outside) and cover nearby objects with drop cloths to protect them from spray mist.
- Remove the glass from the wood frame and give the wood a thorough sanding. Depending on what shape the frame is in, you may need to caulk and sand any imperfections that could interfere with the finished paint job.
- Wipe off sanding residue with a damp paper towel and let dry.
- If the frame is porous or painted with a really dark color, you may want to apply the Rust-Oleum® Stops Rust® Clean Metal Primer.
- Spray on Rust-Oleum® Specialty Metallic in Gold, following the application instructions on the can. Don’t forget to allow for specified dry time between coats.
- Crack open a pint of Rust-Oleum® Stops Rust® Protective Enamel in a black shade and apply the stripes freehand with the narrow foam brush. Don’t worry if they’re not exact, it’s that unique hand-done character that adds special charm. (Have confidence!)
- You may choose to matte your new masterpiece, (we did!) but that’s totally your call.
- Find the best place in your home to display your new classical piece of art, you creative genius you!
