    • 10 Feet of 0.5” x 1.5” Wood
    • 2 Feet of 0.75” x 5.25” Wood
    • 4 Feet 6 Grain Leather 1” wide strip: (2) cut at 9” and (1) cut at 27”

  1. To make the outer and bottom slats, cut (9) 12.5” pieces from the 0.5” x 1.5” wood.
  2. To make the sides and center divider, cut (3) 7" pieces from the 0.75" x 5.25" wood.
  3. To make the wood handle piece, cut (1) 7" x 1" piece from the 0.75" wood.
  4. Sand all pieces, and ease edges with progressive sandpaper grits (120/180/220).
  5. To make the holes for the side straps, drill two sets of holes on the outside edges of the wood sides, 1/2" deep, positioned 1" down from the top and sides. Don't drill all the way through.
  6. To make the holes for the wood handle piece, drill (3) equally spaced holes, 1/2" deep on one side of the handle, starting approximately 1" in from each end.
  7. Pre-finish all wood pieces with two coats of Varathane Crystal Clear Spar Urethane (or Varathane Stain & Poly Spray). Allow them to dry overnight before assembling the pieces.
  8. Nail the (9) slat pieces to the (3) thicker side- and center-divider pieces as shown. Ensure everything is square while equally spacing the bottom and side slats, as well as the center divider of the crate.
  9. Center the wood handle piece on the 27" leather strap, then mark and punch holes in the leather and attach with #10 screws and washers.
  10. Create a 3" long loop on each end of the long strap, and rivet the material together with #9 copper rivets.
  11. Punch holes in the ends of each of the shorter leather pieces about 1" from the ends.
  12. Next, loop these pieces through the longer strap's loops, and attach to the sides of the crate as shown in the photo with #10 screws and washers.
