Spray paint is a simple way to give your kitchen cabinet door and drawer handles an updated look. See how we transformed the look of these cabinets by painting the hardware.
- Before you begin, remove the hardware from the cabinets and place it on a drop cloth in a well-ventilated space. Cover your surrounding area with kraft paper, plastic or a drop cloth.
- Vigorously shake your can of Rust-Oleum Universal Metallic Spray Paint (we chose the color Gunmetal Gray) for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle.
- Hold the spray paint can upright and 8-12” from surface of your item and apply it in a steady, back-and forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the same distance from the surface and in motion while in use.
- Apply two or more light coats of spray paint, rather than a single heavy coat, for best results. After applying the first coat, recoat within 1 hour or after 48 hours.
- The spray paint will be dry to the touch in 30 minutes, to handle in 1 hour, and fully dry in 24 hours.
- Once the paint is completely dry, reattach the hardware to your cabinet doors and drawers.
