A door headboard will turn your bedroom into a rustic retreat. Learned how to transform an old door into a beautiful headboard with Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint and some decorative trim.

Step 1: Remove old hardware from the door.

Step 2: Use a paint scraper to remove all loose paint from the door. Sand the door lightly.

Step 3: If needed, fill existing small holes with wood putty and a putty knife.

Step 4: Cut 1x4 and decorative trim to the length of the long side of the door, then attach it to the long side of the door with nails.

Step 5: Once wood putty is dry, brush on one light coat of
Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint in Linen White. Let the paint dry for approximately 2-4 hours.

Step 6: Dry brush Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint in Charcoal next. Dab the tip of the brush in the paint. Wipe any excess off with a paper towel or rag.  Apply by using quick, light brush strokes. Let dry for approximately 2-4 hours.

Step 7: To distress, use a paint scraper to scrape down the original surface in some spots.

TIP: Chalked paint is fully cured in 24 hours.
Rust-Oleum Chalked Clear Protective Topcoat can be applied for added protection.
